On the esplanade of Parc des Docks in Saint-Ouen, a unique participatory event is taking place. Known as "The Civic Dawn and Dusk", this large-scale performance invites over 700 participants to collectively observe the city's daily transitions—either waking up or going to bed—inside a transparent, booth-like installation.
Organised by choreographer Joanne Leighton, this event is a fusion of civic life, temporal rhythms, and architectural space, creating a shared experience that encourages collective reflection on urban presence.
Participants are instructed to stand still during the performance, leaving their watches and phones in a locker beforehand to ensure complete immersion. They are also asked not to take any notes and to avoid fidgeting too much. The only indicators of time will be the changing colours of the sky and the sounds of the city.
Pascal, a retired resident of Saint-Ouen and a former employee of a film production company, has volunteered as a guide for the performance. He himself took part in the performance a few months ago.
