Harry Nuriev, the visionary artist, architect, and interior designer behind Crosby Studios, has unveiled his latest project - a new outpost for Camperlab in Paris' Le Marais neighborhood. This store is a testament to Nuriev's unique design philosophy, known as "Transformism."
Transformism involves rethinking and reshaping the past to craft a contemporary cultural narrative. It focuses on reimagining everyday materials and objects by giving them new forms and meanings, often with a stark, industrial aesthetic layered with a profound focus on human intention.
In the Camperlab store, Nuriev has applied this philosophy by reinterpreting familiar materials and forms into immersive, intimate, yet public retail environments. The defining design feature of the store is the use of crushed concrete, which appears torn away to reveal shelves of shoes or rails of clothing. This raw texture creates a contrast between the industrial and the everyday, embodying the transformation and movement that Nuriev explores in his work.
The store design also features a central silver banquette, high-shine metal pillars, digital screens, and a vast recessed ceiling light. These elements give the store a strange, sci-fi-like sheen, further emphasizing the transformative nature of the space.
