Windy weather prevails in Bandra
In the vibrant city of Mumbai, a unique transformation has taken place in a 1500 square feet apartment located in Bandra. Salonee Kothari, Founder and Principal Designer of Studio SKO, has breathed new life into the space, creating a tranquil haven that seamlessly blends Japanese design principles with modern aesthetics.
The apartment's design prioritizes comfort and relaxation, with the living, dining, and kitchen areas boasting an open layout for uninterrupted spatial flow. A folding door made with fluted glass separates these areas from the den, providing privacy when needed.
The den, however, deviates from the Japanese theme, featuring a unique seating arrangement and a wooden platform with cushions instead of a sofa. This cozy spot, designed as a comfortable reading nook, adds a touch of warmth to the minimalist space.
The living, dining, and kitchen areas are anchored by a dining table, and the design encourages exploration, inviting residents and guests to discover the intricate details that add to the apartment's charm.
The design brief provided by the clients emphasized ample open spaces and modern aesthetics. To achieve this, Studio SKO has employed a minimalist approach, using a restrained black and white palette and architectural framing elements that create layers of visual interest while maintaining uncluttered spaces.
This thoughtful design allows a continuous, cool breeze to envelop the interiors, showcasing an integration with nature that is central to Japanese design philosophy. The result is a sophisticated yet tranquil living environment that beautifully merges local context with Japanese design sensibilities, tailored for the couple living there.
This restoration project is a testament to Studio SKO's ability to create spaces that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing, offering a unique living experience that resonates with its inhabitants.
