Wiesbaden's Rhine Wine Week Interim Report
The city of Wiesbaden is currently hosting the Rhinegau Wine Week, a much-anticipated event showcasing the region's renowned Riesling wines. The festival, which runs until August 17th, features a series of wine-related events at historic venues across the Rheingau wine region.
The first festival weekend was marked by a lively atmosphere due to the summery weather, attracting wine enthusiasts from far and wide. Food offerings are available at the festival grounds, providing a delightful culinary experience to complement the wine tastings.
The Rhinegau Wine Week aligns closely with the overall Rheingau wine festival experience, offering immersive wine tastings, cellar tours, guided hikes, and culinary pairings. Highlights include wine tastings and tours of boutique wineries, guided vineyard hikes, gourmet regional food pairings, and historical and cultural settings that reflect the Rheingau’s rich wine heritage and scenic Rhine Valley landscapes.
A total of 96 winemakers from the region are participating in the Rhinegau Wine Week. Some tours start or involve Wiesbaden as a gateway city for hotel pick-ups or post-event drop-offs.
For those interested in music, the Rhinegau Musik Festival, which coincides in time and region, offers classical open-air concerts, adding to the cultural atmosphere of the wine week.
A new event called "Riesling Vibes" was introduced on August 11th, featuring electronic music at the Market Church. On the second festival weekend, a stage program at several locations will entertain visitors. On Friday (15th August), "Back 2 the 80s", "Medley Crew", and "Love on the Rocks" will perform at different locations. On Saturday (16th August), "Owen Casey", the "TQS Clubband", and "Kirkland" will entertain at various spots.
Childcare will be provided for both days of the first festival weekend by the evangelical family education in the deanery of Wiesbaden. On Saturday (16th August), childcare is chargeable, but free on Sunday.
The awareness teams of the Moja e.V. youth initiative will provide preventive security during the Rhinegau Wine Week, recognizable by their red bags, black T-shirts, and purple vests. Two guarded bicycle parking areas have been introduced for the event. One of the new bicycle parking areas is located at the Prinzengarten.
An event ticket for public transportation is available for the Rhinegau Wine Week, which can be exchanged for a wine voucher. The opening hours of the stands are extended on Fridays and Saturdays until midnight, and on Sundays from 11 am to 11 pm (on Sunday at the square in front of the Market Church from 12 pm).
