Sherlock Homies Summer Tent Camp in Schwabsoien, Germany

Week-long camping excursion themed around Sherlock Holmes featuring detective activities and brainteasers

A Sherlock Holmes-themed summer tent camp for children and young people is set to return to Schwabsoien, Germany, following the approval of a new building plan.

The camp, which has been running for over 20 years, will be held at a sports field in Sachsenried, offering a picturesque location for mystery adventures. The target group for the camp is typically children aged between 7 and 14, and it usually runs for a week during school holidays.

The camp promises a week filled with mystery-solving activities, detective skills workshops, outdoor exploration, arts and crafts, and evening campfire sessions.

Children attending the camp will receive "cases" to solve throughout the week, with clues hidden around the campsite or nearby forest. These activities encourage critical thinking, observation, and teamwork, as participants work to solve the mysteries just like Sherlock Holmes.

Detective skills workshops will include lessons in fingerprinting, basic forensic science, code-breaking, and logical deduction. Storytelling sessions or role-playing as Sherlock, Watson, or other classic characters will also be part of the programme.

Outdoor exploration and nature activities will be an integral part of the camp, with guided hikes and nature walks themed around finding clues or evidence. Camping basics and survival skills will be integrated with the detective storyline, providing a unique and educational experience for the children.

Arts and crafts activities will include creating detective hats, magnifying glasses, and personalized "detective notebooks." Children will also have the opportunity to draw or write mystery stories inspired by Sherlock Holmes.

Evening campfire sessions will feature storytelling, mystery-themed games, or theatrical plays. There may even be a final "big case" to solve before the camp ends.

The camp will be staffed by 16 volunteers, who will serve as camp leaders, group supervisors, organizers, facilitators for the mystery games and workshops, and provide support for camping, first aid, and safety.

The camp is currently managed by the Johanniter Youth, and this year's theme is "Sherlock Homies - Camping, Crime and Chaos." The camp encourages children to interact with each other and nature without digital distractions.

In addition to the Sherlock Holmes-themed tent camp, the summer in Schwabsoien and the surrounding area offers a variety of family-friendly activities, such as the Boebing Open Air festival and historical markets.

For more detailed schedules, registration information, or contact details of the organisers, it is recommended to check local community centres, youth organisations like German scouting groups, or city tourism websites for Schongau and the surrounding area. Information can also be found on social media groups related to local family activities.

The tent camp, nestled in the picturesque location of Sachsenried, offers not only mystery adventures but also an opportunity for outdoor-living and home-and-garden activities, such as crafting personalized detective hats and notebooks. As the camp focuses on encouraging critical thinking and teamwork, the lifestyle of a detective blends seamlessly with life skills and a touch of home-and-garden creativity.
