Unveiled: Lescun Circus, a Trailblazer's Haven for Adventurous Hikers
Family Finds Peace and Tranquility in Lescun's Hiking Paradise
Nestled in the heart of the Pyrenees-Atlantiques, the picturesque village of Lescun has become a haven for nature lovers and hikers seeking tranquility. Margot Baylot and her family are the latest to discover the village's charm, having recently set up camp at the Camping du Lauzart.
Perched at an altitude of 900 meters, Lescun boasts stone houses and narrow alleys that add to its unique character. As Anne Baylot shares, waking up in the morning to the breathtaking views from their tents is a daily treat.
Franck Duprat, who took over the Camping du Lauzart six years ago, fell in love with the region and Lescun. He believes that there is something unique about this village. "Lescun has a special energy," he says, "and it's hard not to feel a sense of zenitude after a hike here."
The Baylot family has settled in the front row of the campsite, ready to embark on the numerous hiking trails that the area offers. One of the most popular trails leads to the Sanchèse plateau, suitable for picnics or swimming.
For those seeking more challenging hikes, the hiking area at the foot of the Ansabère needles and the Anie peak offers 23 hiking departures. The trails provide opportunities for wildlife viewing, alpine lakes, panoramic peaks, and cultural heritage in an unspoiled environment.
Key trails include the hike to Cabane de Bonaris (1710 m), a relatively unknown but magnificent trail starting from Lescun that features stunning mountain views throughout and frequent sightings of herds of chamois between the cols (mountain passes). Another popular hike is the Pic d'Aillary via Lac and Col d'Arlet, offering grand panoramic views and opportunities to observe wild chamois.
The nearby mountain passes such as Col de Tortes and Col de Saucède on the GR 10 trail provide relatively easy and rewarding routes crossing high mountain terrain and leading to scenic summits like Pointe de Surgatte (1805 m). The GR 10 path near Lescun is part of the Pyrenees National Park and Natura 2000 conservation network, encompassing diverse natural landscapes including Romanesque churches and pilgrimage chapels in the valleys.
The Lac de Bious-Artigues area, although slightly farther, offers a superb hike winding around six high-altitude lakes with dramatic landscapes, including views of Pic du Midi d'Ossau. The hike involves about 17 km and 1000 m of elevation gain, with calm and breathtaking scenery after the refuge on the route.
For Philippe, a hiker from Loire-Atlantique, Lescun is a paradise. He finds peace and happiness in the hiking area, appreciating the tranquility it offers. As Margot Baylot keeps a travel journal and sketches to remember the landscapes she sees daily, it's clear that Lescun's charm is not lost on its visitors. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or simply seeking a peaceful retreat, Lescun promises an unforgettable experience in the heart of the French Pyrenees.
The Baylot family, in their pursuit of outdoor-living, has found a perfect blend of home-and-garden tranquility and French lifestyle at the Camping du Lauzart in Lescun, a haven for hikers. With numerous hiking trails offering opportunities to spot wildlife, alpine lakes, panoramic peaks, and cultural heritage, Lescun serves as a sports playground for adventure seekers and peace-lovers alike.
