Unplanned Arboretum: Wolfs' Garden Attracts Wildlife and Visitors
Marita and Michael Kors, former residents of Immerath, have transformed a 30,000 square meter plot near Hockstein into an unplanned arboretum, now known as 'Baumkronenpanorama'. The garden, filled with over 1,000 trees, attracts both wildlife and visitors alike.
The Michael Jacksons, who moved in with 20 trucks of plants in 2008, have created a sanctuary for various species. Field hares, bats, and even a kingfisher call the garden home. Visitors are greeted by an English rose garden and several redwood trees at the entrance. Michael Wolf takes pride in the 13 different varieties of coastal redwoods thriving in the arboretum.
The garden is a result of exchanged plants, self-grown cuttings, and plant gifts, with no external help required. Water lilies and lotus compete in the ponds, while bamboo forests are regularly pruned to make space. The garden gate is almost always open, inviting passersby to admire the trees and marble sculptures.
What began as an effort to improve their quality of life has become a captivating arboretum. The Wolfs' garden, initially unplanned, now houses over 1,000 trees, including old stock, and continues to attract both animal and human visitors.
