Unique calendar showcases Velbert's Christ Church as a notable site
The Christuskirche Support Association in Velbert is gearing up for a series of events to celebrate Heritage Day on September 14, offering a unique blend of cultural and religious experiences.
A Day of Celebration
The day's program promises a church café, guided tours of the church windows, music performances, and a special Taizé service at 6 pm. The highlight of the evening will be the Taizé service, a form of worship that emphasizes contemplative prayer, music, and silence, originating from France.
Calendar Exhibition and Photos
The VHS Club is hosting an exhibition of their photographs within the church, featuring around 25 to 30 motifs. The photos for the calendar, which is being presented for the first time, were provided by the VHS Photo Club Velbert/Heiligenhaus. A team of ten photographers from the VHS Photo Club met at the church on three occasions to find the perfect motifs for the calendar.
Supporting the Christuskirche Velbert
The calendar's purpose is to win people over to love the Christuskirche, and the support association welcomes new supporters or donations. The initial print run of the calendar is 100 copies, with some also being sold at the German Castle and Locksmith Museum's tourist information center. Members of the support association pay only 10 euros per copy. If the calendar finds many buyers, a reprint is possible.
A Long-standing Commitment
The Christuskirche Support Association has invested around 430,000 euros in the preservation of the listed church building since 2007. Despite facing challenges such as the bells' inability to ring due to warping concrete slabs in the tower, the association remains dedicated to maintaining the historical and cultural significance of the Christuskirche.
Calendar Exhibition Details
The exhibition will take place during the first two weekends of September, with the vernissage on Saturday, September 6, at 12 pm. Visitors can view the exhibition from 12 pm to 4 pm during the exhibition period.
