UK's Top-Selling Vehicles: Does anything pose a challenge to the Ford Puma's Dominance?
Ford Puma Remains UK's Top-Selling Car for 2025
The Ford Puma continues to dominate the UK automotive market, holding the position of the best-selling car for the year 2025. With 26,355 units sold, the small SUV has maintained its popularity due to its practicality, comfort, and fuel-efficient petrol hybrid technology.
The Puma has consistently ranked highly in the sales charts month-to-month, alternating between the first and second positions. Seven of the top 10 best-selling cars in the UK for 2025 so far are SUVs or crossovers, reflecting the strong consumer demand for these vehicle types, especially those with hybrid or electric options. The Ford Puma leads this trend, offering a good balance of performance, economy, and style.
The engaging drive, attractive pricing, and availability of a hot Puma ST variant have also contributed to the Puma's appeal. The model's popularity is further strengthened by its consistent performance, having held the top spot for seven months into the year.
The Kia Sportage, another popular SUV in the UK market, finished fourth in the 2024 sales charts but has retained second place for the second consecutive month. The Kia Sportage, which entered its fifth generation at the tail end of 2022, still looks fresh, eye-catching, and modern. It offers a variety of powertrains, including mild-hybrid, full-hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options.
The Nissan Qashqai, which was the UK's best-seller in 2022, has since been outpaced by rivals, finishing second in 2023 and third in 2024. Despite this, the Qashqai continues to appeal to buyers with its excellent practicality.
In other news, electric car sales in the UK increased by 39.1% year on year in June, reaching 47,354 units. New car registrations also saw a significant increase, rising by 6.4% year on year, with 191,316 units registered in June.
