In the heart of Germany, the city of Düsseldorf has taken a significant step towards improving traffic safety and promoting sustainable transportation. The city, in collaboration with the ADAC, has implemented a traffic regulation initiative that aims to encourage walking and cycling, particularly among schoolchildren.

The traffic regulation has resulted in the placement of a total of 50 stickers at 52 traffic lights across seven intersections. The slogan on these stickers, "Only on Green - Be a Role Model", serves as a reminder for drivers to wait for the green light before proceeding, setting a positive example for others.

The idea for this action originated from the city of Munster, and Düsseldorf has followed suit, inspired by its success. The stickers have been placed at key intersections such as Klemensplatz, Grafenberger Allee/Rethelstraße/Mendelssohnstraße, Am Wehrhahn/S-Bahnhof, Heerdter Landstraße/Aldekerkstraße, Immermannstraße/Charlottenstraße, Bilker Allee/Kronprinzenstraße, and Hütten-/Helmholtz-/Scheurenstraße.

Artist Gunter Demnig, who is known for his concept of "Stolpersteine" (stumbling stones) that commemorate victims of Nazism, was instrumental in the idea to place stickers at these eight intersections in Düsseldorf. The stickers are part of a larger initiative to create a safer and more sustainable city for all its residents.

The ADAC School Route Advisor has also provided traffic regulation advice in Düsseldorf, ensuring that the measures taken are effective and safe for pedestrians and cyclists. The traffic regulation at these intersections is expected to encourage more children to walk or cycle to school, contributing to a healthier and more environmentally friendly city.

This collaborative effort between the city and the ADAC is a testament to Düsseldorf's commitment to improving traffic safety and promoting sustainable transportation. The "Only on Green - Be a Role Model" campaign is just one of the many initiatives aimed at creating a city where everyone can move safely and comfortably, whether on foot, by bike, or by public transport.
