Timeless Stories Designed for Females
On October 11th, Neuwied City Library will be hosting a special storytelling session as part of the celebration of World Girl Child Day. This event, themed "Equality moves us all!", is a continuation of the cultural exchange aspect, as it involves the use of a Japanese tradition - Kamishibai.
Kamishibai is a traditional Japanese method of storytelling using illustrated cards, originating from ancient pictorial narrative forms like emakimono (8th century) and e-toki (12th century). Historically, kamishibai was a popular way to entertain and educate, particularly during the early 20th century in Japan, and has been used to convey various tales, from folklore to modern dramatic stories.
In contemporary settings such as Neuwied City Library's World Girl Child Day event, kamishibai contributes by providing an interactive and engaging storytelling medium that captivates audiences, especially children. The method encourages cultural exchange and the sharing of diverse stories, supporting the educational and celebratory aims of such events.
The special storytelling session will take place at the historic town hall at Pfarrstraße 8, starting at 4 PM. Grimm's fairy tales featuring strong female protagonists will be read during the session, with a Kamishibai, a traditional Japanese paper storytelling theater, being used to bring the stories to life.
