Harris Teeter Refreshes Charleston Stores, Celebrates Community Ties

Harris Teeter, a grocery chain with deep roots in the Charleston community, is currently undergoing a significant refresh of its 12 stores in the area. This multimillion-dollar investment is a testament to the company's commitment to its Lowcountry neighbors, aiming to provide a modernized shopping experience that emphasizes fresh, local products and enhanced customer service.

The refresh encompasses several key areas. Physical improvements will modernize store facilities, with updates to layouts and amenities to better showcase fresh foods and local offerings. The produce department will receive a revamp, and some stores will feature new amenities. New signage throughout the stores will showcase local products and tell the stories behind the suppliers.

Harris Teeter is doubling down on its fresh assortment, particularly produce and other fresh departments, to meet shopper demand for higher quality and fresher options. The company is strengthening its local food supply by sourcing more products from nearby producers, enhancing the store's appeal to community preferences and supporting regional suppliers.

Customer service initiatives are also a focus, with programs aimed at raising customer satisfaction and loyalty through better-trained staff, enhanced shopper experiences, and personalized service.

The refresh will be celebrated with a series of grand-reopening Taste of Teeter events across the region. The first event will be held at Six Mile Marketplace Harris Teeter in Mt. Pleasant on June 18, highlighting regional favorites such as Palmetto Cheese, local seafood, Charleston Coffee Roasters, and other Southern cuisines.

Harris Teeter has served the Charleston community for 48 years and gave back over $6 million to the community last year through donations, fundraising, roundup campaigns, and vendor support. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Kroger Co., which employs over 36,000 associates and operates more than 250 stores and 70 fuel centers across multiple states.

As Harris Teeter continues to invest in its Charleston stores, the company's associates discuss potential changes the grocer may undergo in the coming years. Four stores have already been extensively remodeled, while eight more will receive various enhancements. However, Harris Teeter is not yet ready to disclose details about future market refreshes.

The Taste of Teeter events aim to welcome the community back into their Harris Teeter stores and celebrate the new amenities. Harris Teeter's commitment to local partnerships, fresh offerings, and customer service is evident in these initiatives, reflecting the company's broader strategy of emphasizing fresh and local food offerings, as well as its continued investment in the Charleston community.
