In the realm of environmental conservation, WildFish, a leading charity dedicated to the protection of fish and rivers, has made a significant complaint to Ofwat, the Environment Agency, and Defra regarding pollution entering English rivers. The charity's CEO, Nick Measham, has urged the Government, the Environment Agency, and Ofwat to take immediate action to address this ongoing issue.

Meanwhile, in the world of photography, the International Wedding Photographer of the Year Awards saw a surge in submissions for 2024. Bettina Vass of Iceland was crowned the winner for her captivating shot of Mauli & Christian inside an ice cave. However, as of August 2025, there is no confirmed winner for the 2025 International Wedding Photographer of the Year award.

The Office of Environmental Protection (OEP) has been actively involved in addressing this issue of river pollution. In 2021, the OEP ruled that all three bodies must enforce the law against water companies, following a complaint by WildFish. This ruling was in response to the OEP's findings that Ofwat, Defra, and the Environment Agency have failed to implement the law on sewage treatment, allowing water companies to pollute rivers unlawfully for years.

Guy Linley-Adams, in-house solicitor at WildFish, emphasised that much of the storm sewage pollution plaguing English rivers would not be occurring if Government and regulators had done their jobs properly. The 30-year-old statutory and regulatory obligations for ending storm sewage pollution have not been met.

Elsewhere, the real estate market has been buzzing about Barrow Court, a former Benedictine convent or nunnery, now transformed into a nine-bedroom house. Fine and Country, estate agents, have described Barrow Court as an 'architectural and historical landmark of exceptional grandeur'. Journalists James Fisher and Toby Keel have also weighed in on Barrow Court, with Fisher expressing his desire to publish good stories and Keel describing the house as one that demands and deserves superlatives.

In the world of motoring and travel, James May, a former Top Gear presenter, has been making headlines. He recently agreed to appear on a podcast to discuss his work in TV, his new gin brand, and his pub in Wiltshire.

As the search for the 2025 International Wedding Photographer of the Year continues, the focus remains on addressing the ongoing issue of river pollution and ensuring that the necessary actions are taken to protect our rivers for future generations.

  • In contrast to the ongoing search for the 2025 International Wedding Photographer of the Year, the focus in environmental conservation remains on addressing the ongoing issue of river pollution, as highlighted by WildFish and the Office of Environmental Protection.
  • Despite the excitement in the home-and-garden sphere about the nine-bedroom Barrow Court, discussions about motoring and travel, such as James May's latest endeavors, are overshadowed by the urgency to protect our rivers and ensure a sustainable lifestyle for future generations.
