Students from Fellbach, in a symbolic journey, circumnavigate the globe
The Rems-Murr district in Baden-Württemberg recently hosted a school cycling event as part of the "Stadtradeln" action. A total of 62 institutions participated in the competition, which aimed to promote climate-friendly mobility among students.
During the three-week event, schools collectively covered an impressive 449,000 kilometers. Three schools, in particular, stood out for their exceptional efforts.
Hermann-Hesse-Realschule in Fellbach-Schmiden covered a distance more than once around the Earth, with 43,262 kilometers in over 3,700 individual trips. Grundschule Nellmersbach covered a distance equivalent to a bicycle tour to South Africa with 9,121 kilometers in approximately 500 individual trips. Frobelschool Schorndorf recorded 8,417 kilometers and completed a total of 940 individual trips, which is equivalent to the CO2 avoidance of a round trip flight for two people to Rome.
For their outstanding achievements, these three schools can look forward to a visit from an ice cream truck, along with further prizes such as subsidies for the school festival.
Several other schools in the district also received prizes sponsored by the district. Prizes are awarded in the three categories of primary schools, secondary schools, and special educational institutions.
This year's participation of schools in the Rems-Murr district resulted in over 3,700 individual trips. The event, organised for schools in Baden-Württemberg, is part of the "School Cycling" competition that encourages schools to collect as many kilometers by bicycle as possible within three weeks.
It is the third time the Rems-Murr district participated in the "School Cycling" competition as part of the "Stadtradeln" action. The event is not only a fun and engaging way to promote climate-friendly mobility among students but also a great opportunity for schools to compete and win exciting rewards.
While details about the school cycling event in the Rems-Murr district, including information on participants, total distance covered, or prize winners, are not widely available, local news sources or official event websites would likely provide accurate and detailed information.
Meanwhile, a separate study found that food in hospitals and nursing homes is unhealthy and harmful to the climate. As cities and districts continue to focus on promoting climate-friendly initiatives, events like the school cycling competition are a step in the right direction towards creating a more sustainable future.
School cycling events, such as the one held in the Rems-Murr district, promote health-and-wellness as well as fitness-and-exercise among students, making strides towards a healthier lifestyle. These competitions also contribute to the home-and-garden sector by reducing carbon emissions, thus fostering a cleaner environment. Alongside the school cycling event, research has highlighted the need for a change in the food industry and increasing focus on healthier food options, further aligning with the broader goal of creating a more sustainable lifestyle.
