Competition to Plan Future Uses of Bahrsplate Park in Blumenthal Encourages Community Input

A competition designed to shape the future of green space in Blumenthal, Germany, has been announced by the Senator for Urban Development, Mobility, and Housing. The focus is on redesigning Bahrsplate, a prominent green area in the city, with an emphasis on leisure activities, children's play areas, relaxation zones, and eco-friendly features.

As part of this ambitious endeavor, landscape planners are invited to create unique and innovative approaches for the revitalization of Bahrsplate. The task involves careful consideration of factors such as recreation, education, health, nature preservation, climate change, and flood protection.

Before the planning process commences this summer, concerned citizens of Blumenthal are encouraged to contribute their ideas. Dr. Hanna Augustin, from the urban reddevelopment department, emphasizes the importance of community input, stating, "The people of Blumenthal have shown a strong connection to Bahrsplate throughout our urban development concept collaboration. We welcome and appreciate your input to make this project a success."

Dr. Augustin invites all residents to the office of the Sanierungsträger at Blumenthal's market square (Landrat-Christians-Straße 144) on April 4th, between 3 pm and 6:30 pm, to discuss their wishes and ideas for the future Bahrsplate. Representatives from the authority and offices will be available on-site to offer advice and support.

When considering potential improvements for the park, various options emerge based on community preferences, such as:

  • Community spaces offering opportunities for residents to gather, like parks, public art installations, and community gardens.
  • Recreational areas encouraging physical activity, including walking and cycling trails, and sports facilities for soccer, basketball, and skateboarding.
  • Educational spaces that promote environmental awareness, such as nature reserves and signage about native plants and wildlife.
  • Health and wellness zones including outdoor spaces for yoga, meditation, or fitness classes.

These recommendations aim to ensure that the transformed Bahrsplate caters to the needs and interests of Blumenthal's inhabitants while providing a harmonious and enjoyable environment. By incorporating local feedback through public surveys, community meetings, workshops, and online platforms, the planning process will better reflect the priorities of the city's residents.

  1. The community input for the redesign of Bahrsplate is highly valued, as it aims to ensure that the home-and-garden aspects of the park, such as community spaces and educational zones, cater to the needs and interests of Blumenthal's residents.
  2. As part of the competition to revitalize Bahrsplate, innovative landscape planners are encouraged to incorporate lifestyle elements like leisure activities and relaxation zones, making the home-and-garden area of the park more enjoyable and harmonious for the community of Blumenthal.
