Special events for canine enthusiasts begin on August 1, with pet adoptions also planned at Point Perk.
The Point Perk, a social enterprise that provides vocational training to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), is hosting a special event starting on August 1st. This event, known as the Dog Days of Summer, is a unique collaboration with the Stray Animal Adoption Program (SAAP), a non-profit organisation dedicated to rescuing, protecting, and providing care for at-risk pets.
The Dog Days of Summer event is designed to offer a fun and enriching environment for the staff at The Point Perk, who are all individuals with I/DD. The event will feature dog merchandise, homemade treats for dogs, and a vote for the Pup of The Perk. The shop will also be decorated with photographs of customers' dogs and, on August 8th from 5-7:30 p.m., a dog adoption event in conjunction with SAAP will take place.
This isn't the first time The Point Perk has organised such an event. Previously, they have run The Point Restaurant, a commercial cleaning company, an employment program, Point Commercial Laundry, and Point Apparel, all aimed at providing opportunities for individuals with I/DD.
The Point/Arc, the organisation behind The Point Perk, was founded in 1972 by a group of parents advocating for the educational rights of children with I/DD. Today, The Point/Arc's mission remains the same: to help people with disabilities achieve their highest potential educationally, socially, residentially, and vocationally. They own and operate 18 well-maintained group homes in Northern Kentucky, housing nearly 70 residents across Campbell, Kenton, and Boone Counties.
For more information about the Dog Days of Summer event, including the history of The Point/Arc, we recommend checking their official websites or social media channels, or contacting them directly. This event is more than just a coffee shop event; it's a tool for enrichment, a celebration of positive interactions, and a testament to the power of community collaboration.
