Target Offers Budget-Friendly Back-to-School Essentials for 2024

Target is gearing up for the 2024 back-to-school season with a range of affordable education-related supplies and products. The retail giant has curated a list of 20 must-have items, priced under $20 in total, to cater to students and teachers on a budget.

The list includes basic school essentials such as up&up brand glue sticks (2-count disappearing purple), ultra soft facial tissues, #2 wood pencils, washable school glue, 2-count kids' blunt-tip scissors (pink), and Mondo Llama 12-count colored pencils.

As part of their "Back-to-School-idays" savings event, Target is offering discounts on various items. For instance, there's a 25% off on select kids' apparel, 30% off select kids' shoes, 30% off backpacks from brands like All in Motion and Cat & Jack, 20% off select lunch items (Bentgo and Thermos), and buy-one-get-one 25% off on BIC and Pilot products.

Moreover, Target is maintaining 2024 prices on their list of 20 essential school supplies, with over 1,000 items priced under $5. This includes crayons for $0.25, glue sticks for $0.25, water bottles for $2, and wired headphones for $5.

These budget-friendly items are available both in stores and online on Target.com, especially in the seasonal back-to-school section.

Target is also expanding its private label brands and partner collections to include more budget-friendly products. For example, they are launching a Herschel x LEGO collection of adult and kids' backpacks.

In addition to these initiatives, Target is bringing back its student and teacher discounts and its Target Circle Week promotion, set for July 6-12.

The retailer is also concerned about potential supply chain disruptions and higher prices due to tariffs during the back-to-school shopping season. However, they are striving to maintain affordable prices for their customers.

Minneapolis-based Target Corp. is No. 7 on The PG 100, Progressive Grocer's 2025 list of the top food and consumables retailers in North America.

Lastly, it's worth noting that grocery sales trended down last month, according to the latest government data. Despite this, Target continues to focus on offering affordable products to its customers. Matt Drzewicki has been named SVP for Target's retail media arm, further strengthening the company's commitment to providing value to its customers.
