Robert Adam's northernmost residence, featuring a personal chapel, is up for sale, encompassing 308 acres.
In the heart of Moray, one of the region's largest Georgian houses, Letterfourie, is now up for sale. This exquisite Category A-listed property, built as a home for two bachelor brothers of the Gordon clan, has been lovingly restored and refurbished by its current American owners, who include an architectural historian.
Situated at the heart of a secluded, 308-acre estate, Letterfourie offers 15,412sq ft of accommodation on four floors. The spacious property includes four principal reception rooms, 11 bedrooms, and five bathrooms. The lower-ground floor houses the boiler room, wine cellars, workshop, and stores.
The house, which was purchased in 2014 by the entrepreneur John Christoforou, boasts a private chapel in the west wing with accommodation for a priest, as it was built for devout Roman Catholic brothers. The landscaped gardens provide a breathtaking setting for the house, with restored 19th-century Letterfourie fountains as a focal point. More than a million bulbs have been planted in the gardens, making them come alive in spring with snowdrops, daffodils, and bluebells.
The land associated with Letterfourie comprises 167 acres of arable or pasture land and 139 acres of woodland and rough grazing, currently farmed under contract by a local farmer. The original drawings for Letterfourie House are held at the Adam archive at Sir John Soane's Museum in London.
Evelyn Channing of Savills is handling the sale of Letterfourie, seeking 'offers over £2.95m'. For more information and pictures about Letterfourie, click here.
Meanwhile, another house, Newliston, has recently come to the market. For those interested in exploring more property options in Moray, this could be an exciting opportunity.
