Railway in Saarbrücken now boasts completed smart lighting system

In the heart of Saarbrücken, the capital city of the German state of Saarland, a new intelligent and eco-friendly lighting system has been introduced on Leinpfad. This project is a significant part of the city's Smart City Development Plan.

The new lighting system, which cost approximately 325,000 euros in construction, includes 55 new lighting poles that have been installed and connected. These poles house lights with a 3000 Kelvin color temperature, making them insect-friendly, and they are dimmable, ensuring a soft and energy-efficient glow.

The lights are digitally controllable, allowing for the brightness to be automatically adjusted according to pedestrian frequency. This adaptive lighting measure was carefully tailored to local conditions, ensuring an optimal balance between energy efficiency and safety.

Care was taken during the construction to protect the existing tree stock in the green spaces. Approximately 1.5 kilometers of cable were laid for this project, ensuring minimal disruption to the natural environment.

The previously unlit stretch along Leinpfad is now seamlessly illuminated, providing a safer and more inviting environment for pedestrians. The project has been supported by the city's mayor, Uwe Conradt, who recognised the importance of such an initiative in promoting a sustainable and smart city.
