Proposed design for Freiham landscape park unveiled, featuring two lakes and multiple sports facilities - Unveiled Plans
The Freiham Landscape Park in Munich is set to undergo significant changes, with plans for a vibrant, ecologically-friendly urban space now in the works. The new developments aim to create a lively, high-quality open space network for public use, combining ecological aspects with aesthetic and recreational features.
At the heart of the project is the creation of two large lakes for swimming and recreation, accompanied by spacious sports areas and shoreline seating. These facilities will be integral to the design, providing a focal point for the park's recreational activities.
The park will be divided into two parts by a highway access road, connected by landscape bridges. A large promenade running north-south through the park will serve as the "backbone" of the area, housing gastronomy, play areas for all ages, and quiet zones.
The project is part of a broader concept to develop the Freiham area, encompassing urban development, sustainable building practices, and cooperative housing concepts around the Freiham campus Siemens. The Landscape Park aims to offer a green oasis with paths, indigenous planting, and relaxation areas, aligning with Munich’s goals for ecological and social urban development.
The latest plans are a response to the need for a recreational area in Freiham, as citizens have expressed their desire for more outdoor spaces. In fact, citizens have suggested additional features such as a fenced dog park, toilets, a stage, water dispensers, large trees, and parking spaces near the recreational area.
The interim construction, currently underway in the south and west of the sports campus, includes play, sports, and seating areas specifically designed for young people. The administration has developed a new draft for the Freiham Landscape Park, which was presented at the neighborhood week.
The revised concept places greater emphasis on themes like climate adaptation, biodiversity promotion, inclusion, and gender equality. The City Council will decide on the proposals and the concept for the interim construction in the autumn.
The Freiham Landscape Park will be divided into individual "chambers" that can be filled with different contents through intensive exchange with interested people. The park, approximately 60 hectares in size, is roughly the same as the Westpark.
The completion of the park will depend on the completion of the highway expansion, possibly the construction of the U-Bahn, and the realization of settlement development along the park. While precise completion dates for the entire Landscape Park have not been specified, ongoing progress suggests partial availability of park features soon, with continued development expected subsequently.
Supporting construction and sustainability efforts are being led by recognized planning and construction firms, emphasizing cooperation, biodiversity enhancement, and integration within the urban fabric of Freiham. The Freiham Landscape Park is set to be a "park for all", offering numerous attractions such as two large lakes, sports facilities, gastronomic offerings, a large promenade, small gardens, and quiet areas.
