The animation world, led by ASIFA-Hollywood, has banded together in a heartwarming show of solidarity to support their fellow creatives hit hard by the devastating LA wildfires. They've launched AnimAID and an extraordinary fundraising auction at none other than Sotheby's to raise much-needed funds for those affected within the animation industry.
The who's who of the animation universe, including The Walt Disney Company, Warner Brothers, Sony Pictures Animation, DreamWorks Animation, LAIKA, and more, have all generously donated a smorgasbord of rare, unique animation art pieces for eager bidders to snatch up.
The online auction, open as we speak, aims to aid artists and professionals within the animation industry who are grappling with displacement or have lost their homes as the city of Los Angeles unites in rebuild efforts. Animation producer Don Hahn (Beauty and The Beast, Howard) spoke passionately about the cause on Instagram:
"The animation community, reeling from the Los Angeles fires, is now a united front. We're donating priceless artwork to Sotheby's for a very special auction to benefit an organization called AnimAID, and the profits will help victims of the LA fires."
The impressive collection of over 90 years of artistic treasure draws from both the cinema and TV landscape, featuring iconic gems like Snow White, The Simpsons, Inside Out, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Wild Robot, Beauty and the Beast, Avatar, and more beloved titles.
Hahn went on to express, "Every bid matters and makes a meaningful difference, helping people rebuild their homes and their lives."
