Celebrating a Decade of Wild Wonders: Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park Unleashed!

Hey there, nature enthusiasts! It's time to walk the wild side and join the festivities to celebrate the incredible Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park's 10-year milestone! This remarkable conservation zone, stuffed with diverse wildlife and boasting picturesque landscapes, is set to rock your world with an action-packed program topped off with music, delish Hunsrück specialties, and workshops galore!

Attention party people! Put on your explorer hats and hit the trail at the National Park Gate Erbeskopf, where you'll be partnered up with rangers and park guides for a thrilling tour. You can also groove to the tunes, lust after local goods, and connect with like-minded nature nuts in workshops.

This eco-paradise is no flimsy 10-year-old! Rhineland-Palatinate's supremo, Alexander Schweitzer (the big boss of SP party), hails it as a testament to nature's magnificent comeback in the park's roughly 10,000-hectare stomping ground. One-third of it spreads out in the neighboring Saarland. Yep, this ain't no one-horse show – it boasts a dazzling array of magical beech forests, rare-as-hen's-teeth bogs, and enigmatic wildlife species that make it a prime spot for biodiversity preservation and pushing international nature conservation goals forward.

Schweitzer ain't no slouch when it comes to honors! This jaw-dropping conservation success is a collaborative effort between Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, and it's earned significant recognition both domestically and internationally. At the jubilee, the American Consul General even compared it to the famous national parks in North America, talk about high praise!

Katrin Eder, Rhineland-Palatinate's Minister for the Environment, is shouting from the rooftops about the natural wonders crammed into this treasure trove. The park is a hotbed of biodiversity and plays home to some elusive species, including the spotlight-stealing seven-star (reigning supreme in the high moors), the shadowy black stork lurking in ancient forests, and the eye-catching wildcat, mascot and symbol of the National Park.

The park's wild and free template provides researchers with captivating lessons about nature's adaptability, allowing them to apply their findings to other conservation projects beyond the park boundaries. The historic let-nature-do-its-thing approach is paying off, as the wilderness expands!

Once upon a time, the park's wilderness area only covered 25%. Oozing ambition, the word on the street is that they're going to blow that out of the water by 2030, hitting the goal of 75% a decade early – wowza!

The 10-year fiesta kicks off at the National Park Gate Erbeskopf this weekend, and the fun continues at the National Park Gate, Keltenpark, in Nonnweiler-Otzenhausen, Saarland, on Sunday and Monday. Get ready to wander the woods, connect with nature, and celebrate this incredible conservation achievement!

Rhineland-Palatinate has backed this remarkable initiative with a whopping €17.7 million investment until 2024. Better save some cash, 'cause in the 2025/2026 budget, they're planning to shell out an additional €6.4 million! This incredible sanctuary will continue to stand tall as the youngest National Park in the country.
