Oliver Brügge's tenure as managing director of Zanders Developpementsgesellschaft mbH has reached the 100-day mark.

In the heart of the city, a transformative project is underway. Oliver Brügge, a dedicated figure in urban development, has taken the helm of the Zanders project, aiming to breathe new life into an industrial area.

Brügge is on a mission to find a strategic partner who can invest know-how and funds in the heat and cold supply of the area, ensuring a sustainable future for the site. The handling of existing buildings, known as "grey energy," and the circular economy are important topics, with a focus on preserving buildings under monument protection or assigning them to new uses.

High priority is being given to the plans and the preparation of the technical connection of the site with supply and disposal lines for heat, electricity, fiber optics, drinking water, and wastewater. Brügge has shown expertise and dedication in the complex interrelations of the conversion.

The future Zanders area is planned to be supplied sustainably with heat and cold through a central system. Interim uses on the Zanders site, such as a studio floor and a park with mobile offerings like gastronomy, are being planned. A feasible urban planning concept, including concrete specialized planning, is being developed for the Zanders project.

One of the key elements of the project is the creation of a location for vocational training and a student dormitory in partnership with the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis. The student dormitory will be built as a multifunctional building by a private investor, with small barrier-free apartments for students, singles, and seniors.

The Gleispark is set to open by next spring after work begins in the summer. Brügge's first 100 days in office were characterized by getting an overview, initiating planning steps, and launching implementation projects. A guiding principle and settlement concept for the creation of 3,000 jobs is being developed along with economic promotion.

Brügge envisions a mixed, lively quarter at Zanders with residents of all ages and income levels. The area will feature creative businesses, start-ups, modern craft workshops, owner-managed gastronomy, small-scale retail, and a sustainable meeting point for everyone in the city. The Zanders project aims to turn an undeveloped industrial area into ready-to-build and marketable plots in the next few years.

Political basic decisions for the city library and the excellence module are expected by summer. Plans for the "Alte Zentralwerkstatt" building, the excellence module for vocational training, and the use of the former canteen and communication building ("Forum") as a city library are underway. Brügge is open to ideas for the circular economy, provided there are concrete users and operators who can fund and implement them.

As the project progresses, Brügge continues to work tirelessly to ensure the success of the Zanders project, creating a vibrant and sustainable community in the heart of the city.
