Hold onto your hats, fashionistas, 'cause Astana's Bozjyra Fashion Week is a whirlwind of cultural collision! On April 25th, the Bozjyra catwalk transformed into a stomping ground for the timeless allure of the Great Steppes' rich heritage and the vibrant pulse of contemporary styles.

This year's event, branded as a showcase for the ethno fashion of the Turkic world, saw the free-spirited nature of the steppes resonate in the most fabulous fashion. The 2025 extravaganza, themed "Women of the Golden Horde," paid homage to the fierce, graceful women of the Old World, still casting a powerful spell over present-day culture and fashion.
Lurena Doskeyeva, event organizer, spilled the beans on their muse, "We're captivated by the strength, elegance, and grandeur of the women who shaped the history of the Great Steppes. Their beauty, wisdom, and influence sparked collections that embody the spirit of Turkic women."

Designers from Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Uzbekistan showcased a parade of exclusive collections, with garments that bore the imprint of nomadic queens, warriors, and spiritual leaders. These powerful figures lingered on fabrics, embroidery, and edgy cuts, creating a fascinating blend of antiquity and modernity.

The spectacle illuminated the renaissance of ethnic style as a part of our daily wardrobe choices. As Tolgonai Baira, a visionary force in the Kyrgyz fashion scene, points out, "Ethnic elements are everywhere - in clothing, homeware, and design. But they're particularly prominent in fashion, as more and more people embrace outfits with ethnic flair."
In her modest abode, ethno clothing has long since transcended the confines of tradition to become chic, everyday attire that showcases one's unique style.
Fazoda Israilova, founder of the Uzbek brand Turon Couture, shares a similar sentiment. She highlights a rising trend among the young crowd, eager to embrace the authenticity of traditional designs.
"There's been a remarkable upsurge in interest in vintage clothing and national costumes. This trend is evident in the fashion industry as well, with numerous brands in Uzbekistan focusing on ethnic designs," Fazoda confides with The Astana Times.
Bozjyia Fashion Week's organizers have their eyes on global domination. Lurena Doskeyeva reveals, "We aim to make Bozjyia Fashion Week a nomadic adventure, traversing countries along the Silk Road, promoting Central Asian designers on the international stage, including in European countries."
Bozjyia Fashion Week stands alone as the only event in Kazakhstan dedicated entirely to ethnic style. With each new season, the fashion week unveils a thought-provoking theme linked to the women of the Great Steppes - the legendary heroines of the Turkic world, whose powerful energy has forged bonds between nations for centuries.
