Newly unveiled cycling path expands with grandeur
In the heart of Dreieich, a new cycle street has been established at the Hengstbach Facility in the Buchschlag District. This initiative is part of the city's efforts to provide alternatives to the Dreieichbahn and alleviate congestion on streets leading to Frankfurt.
The Hengstbach Facility cycle street, now redesigned as a dedicated cycling route, connects the Ernst-Ludwig-Facility with Mitteldick Street. This key connection will serve as a crucial part of the expanded direct cycling route FRM1 between Darmstadt and Frankfurt in the future.
Cyclists on this new route enjoy priority, with motor vehicles expected to behave as guests, yielding to cyclists and maintaining a maximum speed of 30 km/h. Overtaking is only permitted if it can be done safely, without causing danger or forcing other road users to change course.
Pedestrians are welcome on the cycle street, but should not hinder the flow of cyclists. Access for motor vehicles may be restricted to residents, deliveries, or local traffic only. On-street parking may be limited or prohibited to keep the cycle street clear and safe for cyclists.
The new cycle street is not just for traditional bicycles. It allows bicycles, pedelecs up to 25 km/h, and e-scooters. A minimum distance of 1.50 meters must be maintained when overtaking on the cycle street.
To ensure the safety of primary school students attending the Selma-Lagerlöf School, a crossing aid has been installed in the Hengstbach facility, located between Falltorweg and Hengstbach Bridge. Further construction improvements are planned for spring to make the crossing even safer.
Building attractive cycling connections in Dreieich is considered an important contribution by city officials. The city of Dreieich emphasizes the importance of providing alternatives to the Dreieichbahn for commuters, promoting cycling as a step to relieve congested streets leading to Frankfurt and as an alternative to the Dreieichbahn.
For exact local rules, signage on site and official Dreieich municipal traffic regulations should be consulted. The city of Dreieich is working on providing more alternative transportation options for commuters, making Dreieich a greener and more sustainable city.
