New leader appointed for Urban Development Society

New Managing Director Takes Charge at Stadtentwicklungsgesellschaft Solingen (SEG)

Julia Anneke Kunz, a seasoned spatial planner with a degree in the field, has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Stadtentwicklungsgesellschaft Solingen (SEG), effective from February 1st.

The SEG, a municipal company, plays a crucial role in bringing projects of city-wide importance to fruition. Kunz views the SEG as a "problem solver", "impulse generator", and strategic partner in the city. She succeeds Carsten Zimmermann, who has been leading the department 1 (administrative management) at the town hall since last November.

Kunz is no stranger to urban development and spatial planning, having spent ten years at the IGW - Iserlohner Gemeinnützige Wohnungsgesellschaft mbH. There, she led the area of existing buildings and urban development. Before joining the SEG, she worked as a deputy head of department in the planning and building supervision department of the city of Wülfrath.

The SEG's upcoming projects are vast and varied. They include the development of new things and moving Solingen forward, in collaboration with the town hall, politics, and other city actors. The interest of investors is limited due to low returns and complicated measures, but Kunz is determined to quickly start the development of plots.

The two kindergartens currently being built on Schwanenstraße in Ohligs and at the clinic are the initial focus for 2025 at the SEG. Further projects are in the pipeline according to the SEG’s annual plan.

Kunz is excited about her new role, as it involves tasks such as brownfield development, new construction of residential properties, and social infrastructure, among others. She looks forward to continuing the work started by Carsten Zimmermann and Hartmut Hoferichter and successfully implementing projects with Andreas Budde, who holds the dual position of Managing Director at the SEG.

Despite the absence of direct search results providing information specifically about Kunz's professional background or projects in urban development and spatial planning, it is clear that she brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to the role.

As Kunz takes the helm at the SEG, she is poised to make a significant impact on the city of Solingen, addressing issues such as brownfields and vacancies in central locations, and meeting the high demand for housing and care facilities, all while navigating the complexities of urban development and spatial planning.

In her new role as the Managing Director of SEG, Julia Anneke Kunz aims to leverage the company's role as a strategic partner to enhance the city's lifestyle, particularly focusing on home-and-garden projects such as the development of the initial kindergartens on Schwanenstraße in Ohligs and at the clinic. Furthermore, Kunz's responsibility encompasses addressing city-wide issues like brownfield development and meeting the growing demand for residential properties and social infrastructure.
