In the heart of Neustadt, Dresden, a new residential development is taking shape, named the "Eva-Buettner-Carre" in honour of the city's remarkable musician, journalist, and politician. The project, led by Wustenrot Haus- und Städtebau GmbH (WHS), promises 64 owner-occupied apartments ranging from 2- to 4-room units, with sizes yet to be specified in detail[1].

The development, located at Eva-Buettner-Straße 16, 18, and 18a-c, is expected to be completed by the end of 2027[2]. The project is currently active, with some related infrastructural elements already in place, such as a newly completed playground on Eva-Büttner-Straße, as of October 2024[1].

Eva Buettner, the development's namesake, was born on 27th July 1886 and passed away on 25th August 1969. During her life, she faced adversity, including being banned from working after the Nazi takeover in 1933 and being taken into "protective custody" in the Dresden police prison[3]. However, she managed to evade deportation by simulating a poisoning after her husband's death in 1943 and hiding in the horse stable of Schloss Pulsnitz with the help of Dr. Magerstaedt and Frau von Helldorf until the end of the war[4].

The apartments will boast various floor plans, floor heating, level-access or low-level showers, and modern lifts[5]. Additionally, they will feature terraces, balconies, or heated winter gardens, depending on the variant[6]. The building will also sport sloping Walm and mansard roofs, designed to blend harmoniously with the historical cityscape[7].

In terms of sustainability, the development will be constructed to the energy efficiency standard Energy-Efficient House 40 (EEH-40) and will meet the requirements of the quality seal Sustainable Building Plus (QNG-Plus)[8]. Heating and hot water will be supplied via the local district heating network. A basement garage and communal outdoor facilities with a children's playground are also part of the offer[5].

For those interested in learning more about Eva Buettner's life, additional information can be found on the City Wiki and Wikipedia[9].
