New bicycle storage facilities with 80 spots at Essen main train station guarantee dry and secure parking for bicycles
In a significant move towards promoting environmentally friendly transport, the city of Essen has opened four new bike garages at its central station. The garages, located in the parking lot on Weigelstraße, will be operational from September 18, 2025.
These double-decker bike garages offer a total of 80 parking spaces for bicycles, making it more convenient for cyclists to use both bicycles and trains for their daily commute. Each garage houses 20 parking spaces, providing ample space for cyclists.
The upper level of these garages can accommodate regular bicycles up to 18 kilograms, while e-bikes, which are heavier, will be accommodated on the lower level. The garages are secured with sliding doors and can be accessed via the "DeinRadschloss" system, ensuring the safety and security of the parked bicycles.
The opening of these bike garages is part of a larger initiative by the city portal to provide safe and dry parking for bicycles near the station. Bookings for these garages can be made through the Ruhrbahn app or the VRR app, offering flexibility for daily or long-term parking.
