Exploration of Bahrain Pavilion: A Sensory Journey Across Seas

The Bahrain Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai, themed "Connecting Seas – A Journey Through the Senses", is a testament to Bahrain’s rich maritime culture and its commitment to sustainable living. Situated on Yumeshima Island in Osaka, Japan, the pavilion offers an immersive and atmospheric experience that highlights Bahrain's unique connection to the sea and desert environments.

As part of the six-month international event running from April 13 to October 13, 2025, the Bahrain Pavilion is a significant addition to Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai, which aims to showcase global innovations and cultural exchange. The pavilion is designed by architect Lina Ghotmeh, who has focused on an experiential journey that connects visitors to Bahrain’s natural environment and cultural heritage through sensory experiences.

The design of the Bahrain Pavilion is inspired by Bahrain’s seafaring heritage and Japan’s woodworking traditions. The structure of the pavilion is formed by interlocking wooden pillars, resembling a dhow, an ancient sail boat, and standing four stories high. This design choice serves as a physical representation of Bahrain's maritime heritage, while also emphasising sustainability and the harmony of nature and technology.

The exhibits within the pavilion centre on sustainable living in arid environments, addressing themes such as water innovation and desert culture. Visitors can expect a curated journey that stimulates the senses, featuring interactive displays, multimedia presentations, and cultural artifacts to communicate Bahrain’s unique connection to the sea and desert and its futuristic vision for sustainability.

The Bahrain National Day celebration will take place at the Expo National Day Hall on Thursday, September 18. The Bahrain Pavilion is located in the Empowering Lives zone of Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai, inviting millions of visitors globally to experience Bahrain’s culture and innovations first-hand.
