Museum Day for Laundry at Kaisenhaus Museum

Step back in time and join us at the Kaisenhaus Museum for an exciting event tomorrow, titled "Wash Day at the Kaisen House". Nestled in the heart of the Waller Feldmark allotment garden area, near the Verein Blockland e.V. (Behrensweg 5a), this museum offers a unique experience that transports you to post-World War II Germany.

The Kaisenhaus Museum, a historically significant cultural monument designated in 2024, is not just a museum but an excellent destination for bike rides. Its four exhibition rooms are filled with original artifacts, providing a glimpse into the past.

The museum was founded by the Kaisen Houses Association, established to save an original 1957 Kaisen house from demolition. Today, it stands as a testament to Mayor Wilhelm Kaisen's vision, who legalized living in allotment gardens in August 1945 to alleviate housing shortages after the war.

During "Wash Day at the Kaisen House", visitors can participate in washing laundry using a zinc tub, washboard, soap, and washboard, offering a hands-on experience of historical laundry equipment. Angela Piplak from the Walle History Center will be present to guide and share insights about the event and the museum's history.

The museum's regular opening hours include every second Sunday from 2 PM to 6 PM until October. Special programs, such as "Wash Day at the Kaisen House" on July 6 and a matinee event at 11 AM on August 17, are also scheduled. Entrance to the museum on Sundays is free, but donations are gratefully accepted.

For more specific information about the event or upcoming events, it would be best to contact Christine Glenewinkel at 0160-206 62 25. Alternatively, you can visit the museum's official website kaisenhaus.de for detailed schedules and special tours.

The museum is easily accessible by bus line 20 (to the Hohweg end stop) or by car. So, mark your calendars and join us for a day filled with history and hands-on experiences at the Kaisenhaus Museum!

The following event at the Kaisenhaus Museum, scheduled for July 6, offers an outdoor-living experience with a special program focusing on historical laundry methods. Visitors can immerse themselves in home-and-garden activities by participating in wash day using traditional equipment, an attempt to recreate post-World War II life in the museum's allotment garden area.
