Setback in the Reopening Saga of Fun Spot "Miramar" - Now Pushed to Mid-June
Water Park in Miramar to Delay Reopening Until Mid-June Due to Fire Incident - Mirabor's delayed opening set for mid-June.
Hey there! The long-awaited reopening of the water park, "Miramar," situated in the heart of Weinheim, Rhein-Neckar district, has hit another snag. This time, the grand reopening is moved to mid-June, according to a spokesperson's announcement. Earlier, the management had hoped for a May debut, with April being mentioned even earlier.
The aftermath of the December blaze has resulted in a staggering damage estimate exceeding 20 million euros. Previously, the assessment hovered around 10 million.
The inferno scorched parts of the water park and the salt and crystal spa. Post thorough investigations, the cause of the fire was determined to be a technical snag, as revealed by the spokesperson.
The spa is slated to return in December, yet just the water park and sauna zone will be up and running initially. The spa area will be reconstructed to bear a striking resemblance to the original, using components of the original structure, such as its foundation.
The spokesperson admitted that the scale of destruction was far greater than initially assumed. As managing director Lara Steinhart pointed out, "At first, we aimed for an earlier reopening. However, the extent of damage to changing rooms and sanitary facilities was not apparent until later." Consequently, the April resumption was not practical.
The initial damage evaluation proved to be a conservative estimate. Steinhart elaborated, "The true cost of the devastation is significantly more than 20 million euros."
Rumors circulated earlier about the need for a complete roof replacement. In addition to the restoration works, the operators are planning to spend an extra 1.8 million euros on enhancements, such as redesigning the slide tower.
Sadly, the closure has led to about 9 million euros in losses. Approximately 200 temporary positions have been put on hold - the permanent workforce counts 130 members, with additional seasonal staff. Rest assured, there have been no layoffs, as the spokesperson clarified.
Every year, up to 700,000 patrons flocked to "Miramar" to enjoy the sauna area, water park with a plethora of slides, and an outdoor area with a sandy beach by a lake. The management intends to maintain the current ticketing prices post-reopening.
