Mid-Heshen Festivities Erupt in City of Gießen
The city of Gießen is gearing up for an exciting weekend as the Gießen City Festival 2025 takes place from August 15th to 17th. This three-day event promises a variety of activities, including music, comedy, and cultural experiences.
On Friday, the city's stalls will open their doors at 11 am, marking the official start of the festivities. Local artist groups, as well as well-known bands and musicians from beyond the region, will perform throughout the weekend. Some musical highlights include "Boppin B.", "Liedfett", and the music-comedy duo "Welthits in Hessian".
The garden of the Ulenspiegel will be transformed into a wellness oasis on Saturday, offering a tranquil retreat amidst the festival buzz. Meanwhile, on Plock Street, Landgraf Philipp Square, and Katharinen Square, other stages will host a variety of acts. The SWG stage at the Church Square will be the largest stage, featuring some of the biggest names in music.
On Saturday evening, Singer-songwriter Lea Pfeiffer will perform, followed by Liedfett on the Church Square. Clown Ichmael and the Circus Tent will provide interactive circus performances, adding a touch of fun and excitement. The popular dragon boat cup will take place on the Lahn, near the Ruderclub Hassia to the Christoph-Rübsamen-Steg.
On Sunday, the TSG Steinbach brass orchestra will perform in the early afternoon on the Church Square. The festival will culminate with the comedy performance by "Welthits in Hessian" on Sunday evening.
In addition to the music and performances, Berliner Platz will host a day of cultures on Saturday. The Gießen 46ers team presentation marks the start of the basketball season on Saturday. For those interested in running, the "Run'n Roll for Help" charity run will take place on Sunday, starting at the Brandplatz.
Mayor Thilo Becher will tap the first keg in the evening, signalling the start of an evening filled with music and laughter.
