Memorial sites in Lüner will be accessible on September 14th, granting public entry to their monuments.

Lünen, Germany, is set to open its doors to the public for a unique cultural event on Sunday, 14th September, 2025. The nationwide "Day of Open Heritage" is coordinated by the German Foundation for Monument Protection and aims to raise awareness of the value of historical buildings.

Several landmarks in Lünen are participating in the event, including the Alte Schule Alstedde, Geschwister-Scholl-Gesamtschule, and Villa Urbahn.

The Alte Schule Alstedde, located on Alter Kirchweg, is a rare example of the so-called "one-room school". Built in 1865, it forms an ensemble with a school building, teacher's residence, stable, and school garden. Visitors can learn about the history of the site, which is now part of the Erlebnisreich Campus. The reconstructed school garden is maintained by the Arbeitskreis für Umwelt und Heimat e.V.

The Alte Schule Alstedde will be open for guided tours, and the school garden can be freely visited. On Sunday, visitors can access the former canteen from 11 am to 4 pm. Additional entertainment includes coffee and cake, as well as musical performances in the style of the 1860s.

The Geschwister-Scholl-Gesamtschule, a protected building on Holtgrevenstraße, will also be open to the public. It will be accessible on Sunday, 14th September, from 11 am to 3 pm, with guided tours offered every full hour on the day.

Villa Urbahn on Graf-Adolf-Straße, a protected monument since 2017, is another participating landmark. Housing the Museum of the City of Lünen, it will be open on Saturday, 13th September, and Sunday, 14th September, from 10 am to 6 pm. There will be guided tours of Villa Urbahn and a children's painting workshop.

The former canteen of the Gewerkschaft Eisenhuette Westfalia on Huettenallee is also participating in the event. Built around 1870, it is part of the 1826 founded Eisenhuette Westfalia, which has been carefully restored and now offers conference and event spaces. Drinks will be available on site.

The official app and website www.tag-des-offenen-denkmals.de provide an overview of all opened monuments and further information. The event's nationwide theme is "Priceless: invaluable or irreplaceable?".

For more details about the Museum Stadt Lünen in Villa Urbahn, please visit the museum or check their website. The director is not explicitly named in the provided search results.

The "Day of Open Heritage" is a wonderful opportunity to explore Lünen's rich history and heritage. We hope to see you there!
