Library services expand in Lahnstein City: introduction of 'library of things' initiative begins

The Lahnstein City Library, as part of the New Multimedia Media project, has launched a complementary borrowing service known as the 'Library of Things'. This innovative initiative aims to take the library in a modern and family-friendly direction, as stated by Lahnstein's Mayor Lennart Siefert.

The 'Library of Things' at Lahnstein City Library includes a variety of items designed to promote learning and play. You'll find interactive pens, talking figures, wireless children's headphones with audio chips, digital learning boxes, creative story theaters, multimedia globes, and various devices for playful language promotion. This collection is a testament to the principle of the sharing economy, allowing devices and media to be tested for their usefulness and fun factor within the family.

The 'Library of Things' concept, known for promoting literacy and sustainability in communities, is now a part of Lahnstein City Library's expanding collection. By lending tools and equipment, the library reduces the need for individual purchases, cutting resource use and waste. Seed libraries, for instance, support biodiversity and promote local gardening.

The 'Library of Things' also enhances equitable opportunities for participation in education, hobbies, and home improvement. By providing items that might be cost-prohibitive otherwise, such as tech devices, sports gear, and DIY tools, the library fosters a culture of sharing over owning, which reduces waste and supports environmental sustainability.

Examples from other Library of Things programs include lending pre-loaded tablets for educational use, seed packets for gardening, and safety equipment kits with tools. These initiatives have a multi-faceted impact on literacy and sustainability.

The 'Library of Things' at Lahnstein City Library is specifically targeted at children, youth, and families. It offers a combination of classic library work and contemporary ideas, promoting sustainability, inclusivity, and catering to young readers.

Interested parties can visit Lahnstein City Library at Kaiserplatz 1 to discover the 'Library of Things'. All items are easy to use, have few individual parts, and can be borrowed and returned conveniently.

The library is open on Mondays and Fridays from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Non-members can register in person at the library.
