- Renovation of the historic terrarium
- Construction of "Fireland," an enclosure custom-made for seals, penguins, and sea lions
- "Asian Island Worlds," where large aviaries and island habitats await various Asian species
Originally, the master plan was budgeted at 200 million German marks, but higher construction costs and general inflation have necessitated a revision. Roughly 30% of the investments have come from the city of Leipzig, while the rest has been financed by Zoo Leipzig GmbH through revenue, loans, and grants.
