Sustrans Seeks Head of New Developments to Promote Active Travel
Sustrans, the UK's leading active travel organisation, is on the hunt for a new Head of New Developments. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead efforts in embedding active travel—walking, wheeling, and cycling—into new housing developments.
Based in the Policy and Communications directorate, the Head of New Developments will play a crucial role in Sustrans’ five-year plan to increase active travel in new homes. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the strategy to influence housing delivery professionals and decision-makers, develop strategic partnerships, and create funded projects across public, private, and third sectors.
Job Description
The full-time role (37.5 hours per week) offers a competitive salary of £56,254 per annum, plus a London Weighting Allowance of £4,530 for London Borough residents. The role is UK-wide, with some flexibility on working location.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and promote collaborative partnership offers using Sustrans' infrastructure, behaviour change, and advisory services.
- Work with the Commercial team and subject specialists to develop a pipeline of funded work.
- Lead the strategy to increase active travel in new homes as part of Sustrans’ five-year plan.
- Connect with, inform, and inspire professionals and decision-makers involved in delivering new homes to adopt actions to increase active travel.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have experience in the housing delivery sector, particularly in new developments. Strong influencing and stakeholder engagement skills, the ability to develop strategic partnerships, and knowledge or affinity with active travel principles and infrastructure are essential. Leadership and strategic planning capabilities aligned with promoting active travel in communities are also required.
