KP Snacks Slashes Plastic Use, Boosts Recycling for Sustainable Packaging

KP Snacks is taking significant steps to reduce its environmental impact. The company has minimised plastic usage and is investing in recycling infrastructure to ensure all its packaging can be effectively recycled.

KP Snacks has reduced plastic film for 6 packs of Discos, Roysters, and Frisps by 35%. This change saves 100 tonnes of packaging annually and reduces lorry journeys by 620. The company has also lowered the plastic gauge in multipack outer packaging for Butterkist and Hula Hoops brands.

Industry partners like Starlinger and Greiner Packaging are adapting their packaging to use more recycled plastics. They are focusing on food-grade recycled PET and sustainable innovations, as showcased at events like K 2025. New EU regulations require PET bottles to contain at least 25% recycled material from 2025, promoting increased use of recycled plastics.

Burts Snacks has implemented 55% post-consumer recycled plastic into its new crisp packets, expected to save around 8,000 tonnes of virgin plastic. KP Snacks has also introduced 25% recycled soft plastics into its Tyrrells snacks sharing range in April 2024.
