Jumbo waste-construct trolls advocate for gentler existence
In a unique and captivating art initiative, Danish artist Thomas Dambo has created over 170 giant troll sculptures from reclaimed and recycled materials. Known as the Trail of a Thousand Trolls, this global project has spread across more than 20 countries and 21 U.S. states over the past 12 years.

The Trail of a Thousand Trolls has expanded culturally and geographically, with exhibitions and tours spreading the message further.
Six of these troll sculptures have taken up residence at Trolls Save the Humans, an installation at Filoli, a 650-acre estate of gardens and forestland near San Francisco. The troll sculptures at Filoli aim to guide humans back to a way of life that respects and protects the natural world. Each troll has a unique character and mission, such as Ibbi Pip who builds whimsical birdhouses from scraps, Rosa Sunfinger who tends to flowers, and Kamma Can who turns rubbish into jewellery.
The troll sculptures, through their blend of folklore and functionality, strike a chord worldwide. They are more than art-they are storytellers, myth-makers, and quiet activists. Each troll sculpture stands as tall as 40 feet (12 meters) and is created with the help of a dedicated team of artists, carpenters, and local volunteers.
