Stray Dog at Fresno Bully Rescue Seeks New Home
By Terese Shaw
Fresno Bully Rescue has shared the story of Bixby, a one-year-old bully breed mix, whose early life has been spent in a shelter. Despite spending nearly all of his young life in a kennel, Bixby remains a vibrant and playful dog, eager to meet his forever family.
Bixby was initially a lively adolescent, full of promise. However, his days morphed into weeks, then months, as the shelter staff tirelessly provided him with the care he needed. As time went on, the kennel's walls seemed to grow heavier, dimming Bixby's once open and cheerful spirit.
Bixby boasts a handsome appearance, with a sleek coat and soulful eyes. Yet, it is his fun-loving and gregarious personality that truly sets him apart. He enjoys playing, swimming, and exploring. On a recent "doggy date," Bixby treated his companion to a pup cup, a walk through Woodward Park, and a relaxing dinner at a dog-friendly restaurant, where he proved to be a polite and admirable companion.
Despite being raised in a shelter, Bixby has shown remarkable intelligence and resilience. He is rapidly learning commands like "sit," "shake," and "down." He is crate-trained, mastered the use of a doggy door within a day, and responds well to routine and structure. Bixby's eagerness to learn is evident in his progress.
Bixby's journey has not been without challenges. Given his upbringing, he requires time to adjust to life outside the shelter. A calm, peaceful home with minimal traffic will help him settle in. He forms bonds quickly with people but may be overwhelmed by too many visitors or excessive stimulation. As such, an adult-only household is the ideal match for him. Bixby should also live in a cat-free environment.
Although Bixby has spent most of his life in a shelter, he is not just another "starter dog." He possesses depth, sensitivity, and a strong heart, yearning for a second chance to show his undying loyalty to the right family.
Bixby waits, hoping for another chance, for someone to see beyond the confines of a kennel and recognize his potential. Could that someone be you?
