Affordable DIY Farmhouse Wreath: A Step-by-Step Guide

Homeowners seeking a budget-friendly yet stylish DIY project may find making a farmhouse wreath an appealing option. This tutorial demonstrates how to create a rustic and inexpensive wreath for less than $10.

Before starting, gather essential supplies, mostly available at dollar stores:

  • Grapevine wreath
  • Lamb's ear greenery (Walmart)
  • Berry stems (Dollar Tree)
  • Wired burlap ribbon (Dollar Tree)
  • White sheer ribbon (Dollar Tree)
  • Wood arrow sign (Dollar Tree)
  • Wired jute cord (Dollar Tree)
  • Sharpie marker
  • White acrylic paint

To make a simple burlap bow:

  1. Remove the lace from the burlap ribbon.
  2. Measure and cut fifteen-inch pieces, folding each in half, and one twelve-inch piece for the tail.
  3. Staple the ends together, or use hot glue to create a circular shape.
  4. Wrap the sheet ribbon around the burlap circles, stapling the ends to secure.
  5. Lay the burlap/ribbon circles on top of each other to form a star, then gather in the middle.
  6. Create a V-shape on the twelve-inch piece and attach it to the back of the bow using wire.

Assembly:

  1. Weave the greenery stems through the grapevine wreath, adding more for a fuller appearance.
  2. Attach the bow to the middle of the greenery with wire.
  3. Weave the berry stems on the top and bottom of the wreath.

To transfer an image to wood, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the jute rope from the wood arrow sign and fill in any cracks with wood filler or caulking.
  2. Paint the sign with white acrylic paint and let it dry before printing a "Welcome to our home" printable in mirror image.
  3. Place the printed paper face down on the painted sign and use a pencil to firmly shade over the design.
  4. Carefully go over the design with a sharpie or paint pen.
  5. Tie some twine, ribbon, or jute rope to the bottom of the house for hanging.
