In the heart of Mainz, Germany, a significant transformation is underway. The city's Development Corporation (MAG) has announced plans to revamp Jockel-Fuchs-Platz, aiming to create a "green oasis" and a bustling "lively meeting point."

The redesign focuses on enhancing the area's greenery, making it more inviting and comfortable for people to gather, relax, and socialize. This includes planting more trees and vegetation to create shade and a pleasant atmosphere, as well as improving seating options and the overall landscape to encourage community interaction and leisure.

The transformation also includes play elements, gastronomy, and events, making the square a hub for entertainment and enjoyment for all ages.

The wishes of Mainz residents have played a significant role in shaping these plans. Discussions among experts, administrative staff, and citizens from all districts resulted in demands for more greenery, water elements, shade, social meeting points, cultural events, a safe public space with political significance, and a connecting element between the city center and the Rhine.

Other popular suggestions included environment and climate considerations, accessibility, and a separate survey for children and young people. Since the beginning of the year, citizens of Mainz have been able to submit suggestions for the future design of the square and the staircase to the Rhine.

The results of these suggestions will be presented at a finissage on August 26th. Prof. Dr. Constanze Petrow, a landscape architect and professor at the Geisenheim University of Applied Sciences, will present the results of the participation process.

On August 26th, there will be an opportunity for further suggestions and discussion. The final event of the citizen dialogue will take place on Tuesday, August 26th, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM in the Rheingoldhalle (entrance C). All interested Mainz residents are invited.

After August 26th, an urban planning and open space planning realization competition will be launched based on the results. The aim of the transformation is to make the square a "climate-friendly place of relaxation" and a "lively meeting point."

The transformation of Jockel-Fuchs-Platz is a testament to the power of community engagement in shaping the city's public spaces. It's a step towards creating a more sustainable, welcoming, and vibrant Mainz for all its residents.

During the transformation of Jockel-Fuchs-Platz, the area will be turned into a "green oasis," providing a comfortable home-and-garden atmosphere for people to relax and socialize. This revamp will focus on enhancing greenery, improving seating, and creating a lively meeting point, making it a hub for entertainment, leisure, and community interaction.
