House Walkthrough!
In the heart of the city, Aaron and a writer have made a unique 1930s ranch bungalow their home. Purchased in 2015, the house was a time capsule, complete with wallpaper, popcorn ceilings, and carpet, including in the bathrooms.
Over the course of four months, the authors embarked on a renovation journey, doing most of the work themselves. The house has since undergone a remarkable transformation, with each room showcasing its own charm and character.
The family room, where the authors spend most of their time eating, hanging out, and watching Netflix, is a perfect blend of old and new. The sofa is from Ikea, while the coffee table is from Article. The rug is from CB2, and a sheepskin throw from Ikea adds a touch of warmth. The family room's center table, chairs, lamp, chest, and a woven plant basket are all antiques, lending an air of timeless elegance.
The family room also boasts a mini cactus from Target and a bergamot candle from the same store. A small pillow is old, while the large pillow is from Wayfair. The woven lamp is from Ikea, and the striped wool blanket is by Pendleton. A silk plant and wood planter complete the cosy setup.
In the sitting room, designed for conversation and listening to records, the authors have an antique record player. The cactus print and aloe print are by Laurel and Pearl, the rug is by Ikea, the leather chair is by CB2, and the sheepskin throw is by Ikea. The bench, silk plant, and basket in the sitting room are from various stores.
The kitchen, with cabinets, countertops, and hardware from Lowes, and a faucet by Delta, is functional and stylish. The kitchen's floating shelves were installed by attaching L brackets to the wall, followed by the tile backsplash, and then the shelves.
The paint colour throughout the house is Pure White by Sherwin Williams, and the curtains are the Lenda curtains from Ikea. The dining room, not used much, is under consideration for a makeover. The authors are thinking of painting it a dark charcoal and turning it into an intimate library. If the plan goes ahead, their ultimate dream is to add a fireplace to the room.
The entryway, with its red tiles, adds personality and uniqueness to the home. The authors have embraced this quirky feature, as it is not currently popular.
The house has come a long way since the renovation, but the authors still have plans for more changes. Their plan for the library includes displaying their favourite books and adding two comfy chairs.
Despite the changes, the authors have managed to preserve the charm and character of their 1930s ranch bungalow, making it a truly unique home in the city.
