This action-packed day was conceived by the German Society for Milling History and Mill Preservation to raise awareness about the cultural heritage of mills, as declared by the Landscape Association Rhineland (LVR) in Cologne. "Many still recall the mill in their town," said Julia König, overseeing Mill Day at the LVR, "It was once a staple in our communities."
Visitors can look forward to live performances, guided tours, and cycling trips throughout the regions of the Landscape Association Westphalia-Lippe, including the LWL Open-Air Museums in Hagen and Detmold. Among them, the Grottenhertener Windmill in Bedburg, Rhein-Erft-Kreis, will whir to life (provided there's enough wind power for the gears).
