In the heart of Germany, the city of Gütersloh is set to unveil its rich history and vibrant present in a captivating documentary titled "Gütersloh - 200 years between coffee and cosmos." Created by filmmakers Kai Uwe Oesterhelweg, Kathrin Groth, and Susanne Zimmermann, who are also behind the acclaimed "Gütersloh super eight," this film promises an entertaining exploration of the city's stories, history, and contemporary life.
The documentary, scheduled to premiere at the Bambi-Löwenherz cinema on Bogenstraße on July 13 at 11 am, offers a unique blend of eyewitness accounts, archival footage, and street interviews. Among the individuals featured in the film are former Mayor Maria Unger, Giesbert Nunnemann, Julia Kuklik, Rudolf Herrmann, Barbara Weidler, and Ellen Tarlow, a Gütersloherin and daughter of a Jewish family, who shares her rarely heard memories of the Night of Broken Glass in November 1938.
The film delves into significant events in Gütersloh's history, including the Queen's visit to the city in 1965 and Mikhail Gorbachev's visit in 1992. It also pays special attention to the time of National Socialism, providing a comprehensive and thought-provoking portrayal of this period in the city's history.

The film's creation was a labour of love for Kai Uwe Oesterhelweg, as well as Kathrin Groth and Susanne Zimmermann, and is supported by the city of Gütersloh, Gütersloh Marketing, and the Bürgerstiftung Gütersloh.
