The quaint village of Schönwalde is set to host an exciting event on August 31st, from 2 to 5 pm, as part of the 'History of the Fichtemoped' action day. The event, organised by the support association led by chairman Marc Dobkowitz, will see Jan Matthiesen, a renowned forestry worker from the Plön district, presenting a selection of his extensive chainsaw collection.

Over a century ago, the Bungsberg was a bustling hub of logging activity, with numerous loggers toiling away in the forests surrounding the area. The heavy work would have undoubtedly benefited from a motor-driven helper, a need that Jan Matthiesen's collection seeks to illustrate.

Jan Matthiesen, affectionately known among experts as the 'King of Chainsaws,' has amassed over 500 chainsaws in his collection. His collection includes the Stihl BL, the first one-man saw by the manufacturer, and a variety of chainsaws from Scandinavia, Russia, and East Germany.

During the event, Matthiesen will demonstrate the saws he has brought, providing insights into their special features. If time permits, he may also showcase chainsaw carving, a skill he has honed over the years.

Visitors to the event will have the opportunity to enjoy the historic classroom and the outdoor seating under the chestnuts by the village pond, while savouring the café's offerings, which include a large selection of homemade cakes and tortes.

The museum café will open its doors for the last time this year during the action day, making it a perfect opportunity for locals and visitors alike to experience its charm one last time. A log will be provided for the chainsaws to make loud noises during the demonstrations, adding to the event's unique atmosphere.

Marc Dobkowitz, the chairman of the support association, expressed his delight at Jan Matthiesen's agreement to bring his collection to the event. The 'History of the Fichtemoped' action day promises to be an enlightening and entertaining event, offering a glimpse into the history of chainsaws and their role in forestry work.
