Here's the deal, folks: The Bavarian Forest's State Garden Show, jizzing with excitement in less than a week, is about to steal the show! Bavaria's Environment Minister, Thorsten Glauber, dipped a toe in the preparations at the scenic show grounds in Furth im Wald. The event claims to be a "spectacular celebration" for Bavaria and the surrounding area, with a hefty 11.3 million euros in funding poured into Furth im Wald.

The 38th State Garden Show will stretch across a massive 137 days, beginning May 22 and wrapping up October 5. Minister President Markus Söder (CSU) will kick things off at the opening ceremony, according to the local brouhaha.

Under the spellbinding motto "Magically much to experience," the city is promising guests a smorgasbord of garden and landscape design, floral wonderland, original artworks, craftsmanship, and lip-smacking regional treats. Over 2,600 shrubs, 240 trees, and almost 150,000 perennials and bulbs have been planted to bring this dream to life. The show will also tackle climate change and water conservation head-on. Over 3,000 events are scheduled to keep the party going.

One theme that will cast a red – er, blood-red – shadow over the State Garden Show is the fabled dragon of the historical play, "Further Drachenstich." Garden beds will be arranged in dragon scale formation, a dragon's cave and guided tours will reveal the 14-meter-long high-tech robot dragon of the festival. The "Drachenstich," an age-old tradition in Germany dating back around 500 years, is considered the country's oldest folk play and has been recognized as an intangible cultural heritage since 2018.

The mayor of the community, Sandro Bauer, sees the State Garden Show as a transformative boon for the town. It's an opportunity to wipe the slate clean and correct urban planning errors. One of the urban planning projects is the new open park arena, which replaced the old festival hall.

At first, Bauer was unsure whether Furth im Wald would be up to the task of hosting such a monster of an event. Today, he basks in the glory of being its host. You'll also find multilingual information boards throughout the show, reflecting its close proximity to the Czech Republic.

The 11.3 million euros in funding for Furth im Wald, donated by the state and the EU, is the largest outlay ever bestowed on a State Garden Show, Glauber shared. The next show will take place in 2027 in Bad Windsheim, with the jubilee edition slated for 2030 in Nuremberg.

The Bavarian Forest's Magical Garden Extravaganza, with its focus on regional development, could significantly improve the lifestyle of the Furth im Wald community. As a result, local homes and gardens might see a trend in fashion and beauty inspired by the green and flowery surroundings. With the funding for regional development reaching 11.3 million euros, the show could act as an aid for the development of the regions, fostering a stronger community aid within Bavaria and its neighboring areas.
