First Innus Hired at Apuiat Wind Farm: Noah Jourdain's Success Story

Boralex and Vestas have hired about ten employees, including four Innus, for permanent positions at the Apuiat wind farm. Among them is Noah Jourdain, a local resident who saw the job opportunity at Apuiat park and decided to apply for a fresh start.

Noah, from Uashat mak Mani-utenam, one of the nine Innus communities co-owning the four seasons wind farm with Boralex, was drawn to the job due to the chance to work in the forest and contribute to renewable energy. He completed an eight-month training program adapted for First Nations, becoming one of the first four Innus to do so. Now a certified wind turbine maintenance technician, Noah celebrates four years of sobriety, turning his life around from being a 'functional alcoholic'.

Stephanie Pinette-Simard, an Innus employment agent, supports the hired Innus and acts as a bridge between Boralex and indigenous businesses. She aims to increase indigenous presence in the project. Noah believes better presentation of the Apuiat project in his community could foster more adhesion and understanding.
