Euskirchen Urges Property Owners to Maintain Trees and Hedges for Safety

The city of Euskirchen has issued a reminder to property owners about their responsibility to maintain trees, hedges, and other greenery that could potentially obstruct public traffic areas. Failure to do so may result in unauthorized special use and safety impairments.

Overhanging branches, wide or high hedges can pose significant risks to pedestrians and cyclists, as well as hinder visibility of signs and junctions. The city has outlined several guidelines to ensure safety and usability of public spaces.

Property owners are urged to keep light space profiles clear over pedestrian and cycle paths at 2.5 meters and over carriageways at 4.5 meters. Dead wood should be removed, and sick or dead trees secured or taken down. Pruning of hedges, shrubs, trees, and reed/rush stands should be carried out from October to the end of February for better visibility and safety in traffic. Additionally, property owners must prune hedges back to their property boundary, clear light cones of street lamps, keep traffic signs free of growth, and maintain sight triangles at junctions.

In case of acute danger, the road authority of the city of Euskirchen can arrange for pruning, with costs billed to the respective property owners. However, it is the responsibility of the owners to maintain their greenery regularly and in a timely manner to prevent accidents and liability.

Property owners in Euskirchen are reminded of their obligation to maintain greenery that could potentially obstruct public traffic areas.
