Essen's Playgrounds Get Facelift: 313,000 Euros Invested in Katernberg, Frohnhausen, and Holsterhausen
Essen's playgrounds have received a facelift, with several in Katernberg, Frohnhausen, and Holsterhausen reopening since late August 2025. The city invested around 313,000 euros in these modernizations, ensuring safe and diverse play opportunities for local children.
Westpark in Frohnhausen has seen new play equipment installed at a cost of 133,000 euros. This includes two playhouses connected by a balancing bar and a hanging bar, with various ascents and a long slide for larger children. Meanwhile, the playground on August-Schmidt-Straße in Katernberg offers a range of facilities for children aged 6 to 13, including a climbing tower with slide, ramp, climbing net, and wooden stairs, at a cost of around 120,000 euros.
The Bunsenstraße playground in Holsterhausen has been upgraded with two new play equipment and renovations. This includes a climbing and balancing tower for larger children and a climbing tower with a slide and a fireman's pole for smaller children, at a cost of around 60,000 euros.
The modernization of these playgrounds aligns with the city's goal to provide safe, attractive, and diverse play opportunities for all children near their homes. The total investment of around 313,000 euros reflects the city's commitment to enhancing the lives of its youngest residents.
