Environmental store's visit interrupted by Repair Café halt

On July 26, 2025, the environmental store in Wiesbaden will play host to a Repair Café, a community event aimed at promoting repair and reuse of items to reduce waste and foster community engagement. The Repair Café is not a permanent event but a recurring initiative that has gained popularity worldwide.

The Repair Café is a non-commercial event open to everyone. People can bring broken items to the café for repair by volunteer helpers, and repairs are free of charge. The event includes a small food and drink offer, typically consisting of coffee and cake, to enhance the community atmosphere. Items for repair can be dropped off at the Repair Café until 11:00 and must be picked up by 14:00.

Pliers and screwdrivers will be available at the environmental store on the day of the event. The store, located at Luisenstraße 19, 65185 Wiesbaden, is a hub for environmental initiatives and provides a suitable setting for the Repair Café.

The Repair Café concept originated in the Netherlands in 2009 and has since expanded globally. As of 2025, there are approximately 500 Repair Café initiatives in Germany, many of which are organized within a network of repair initiatives. The Repair Café does not offer any commercial services; instead, it serves as a platform for skill-sharing and community engagement.

Repair Cafes offer repairs for a variety of items, including clothing, furniture, electrical devices, and bicycles. By promoting repair and reuse, these initiatives help reduce waste and support sustainable living practices. They also provide opportunities for people to learn new repair skills and share knowledge with others.
